The Setsoto Local Municipality scored the best in 2015 as the highest performing municipality in the Free State province, based on average index scores achieved in Ratings Africa’s annual Municipal Financial Stability Index (MFSI).
Setsoto consists of Ficksburg, Clocolan, Marquard and Senekal.
The agency analysed the annual financial statements of municipalities during the 2014/15 financial year and then rated them in terms of operating performance, liquidity positions and budget practices.
Each municipality were then given a mark out of a 100 index points for financial sustainability and provinces were then rated based on the average score its municipalities received.
According to Municipal Manager, Tshepiso Ramakarane, they’re humbled.
“We are humbled by the determination of Setsoto to pursue excellence. This pursuit of excellence should also not be confined to one or a few municipalities. I think it is what government has committed to do in terms of the Batho Pele principles, to ensure that we provide quality service to our communities. We also didn’t achieve this milestone overnight. This has been a collective effort, both by employees of Setsoto, the political leadership of the municipality and most importantly, the support of stakeholders, provincial government as well as sector departments at national level.”
